Xeomin® (incobotulinumtoxinA) is an FDA approved neurotoxin used to treat frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles. The overactive muscles of the face can eventually cause deep wrinkles to develop as a result of repetitive movement. By relaxing these muscles, deep wrinkles have a chance to repair themselves and the treated area remains smooth. Xeomin is made from a bacterium that relaxes the facial muscles, causing a temporary reduction in muscle activity. This decrease in muscle activity leads to the smoothing of lines and wrinkles.
How Does Xeomin Work?
Xeomin is injected into the target area to reduce muscle contraction by blocking the signal that is sent by the nerves to the muscle. The temporary reduction in movement allows the skin to relax which leads to smoother and less visible wrinkles. Xeomin treatment sessions typically take 10 to 20 minutes and there is no down time.
Like Botox, the effects of Xeomin occur within seven days of the treatment and typically last about three to four months depending on your skin type.
What Areas Can Be Treated With Xeomin?
Xeomin is used to treat moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, or glabellar lines; however, Xeomin is also an effective treatment for reducing frown lines (around the mouth) and crow’s feet (around the eyes).
Is Xeomin Right For Me?
Ideal candidates for Xeomin are in good general health and want to reduce the visibility of wrinkles that have occurred naturally over time. Some patients start the injections at an earlier age to prevent wrinkles, but it’s always best for patients to discuss with a doctor first to determine if the treatment is ideal for their specific goals.
